Zaris was the dominant male cheetah for some time. I took this portrait in 2009, when he allowed me about 8.2 seconds to photograph while not squirming or walking away. Earlier this year, I read about both his successful siring of cubs in captivity, and the unfortunate loss of his eyes through surgical intervention for disease.
